Marvel Studios has been busy with five new movies and TV series to be released in the next six months. With that said, we have a lot to catch up on concerning the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since July 2021, the movies Black Widow and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings have opened in theaters. The releases of Wandavison, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki on Disney+ have been big hits in previous months. The viewing of these Phase Four Marvel installments may be imperative before seeing any of the new movies and TV series below.
Eternals
Introducing a new team of superheroes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Eternals opened in theaters on November 5th. The Eternals are protectors of the Earth against their evil counterparts, the Deviants. The movie takes place after Avengers: Endgame, during a phenomenon caused by the sudden return of half of the world’s population. These cosmic superheroes are played by Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Kit Harington, and more. In addition to the main cast, Harry Styles was recently announced to play Thanos’ brother in the post-credit scene. Chloe Zhao, a two-time Oscar winner, directed and wrote Eternals and is expected to bring her own signature style to the movie.
Hawkeye
This TV mini-series starring Jeremy Renner, Hailee Steinfeld, and Florence Pugh will be released on November 24th, 2021 on Disney+. The show is set after Avengers: Endgame in New York City during the holiday season. Clint Barton is attempting to return home for Christmas when he is interrupted by Yelena Belova. The post-credit scene of Black Widow reveals Yelena’s new mission: to kill Hawkeye. To overcome this threat, Clint will team up with teenager and fellow archer Kate Bishop. Despite the dire preface, the show is said to be festive and in the Christmas spirit.
Spiderman: No Way Home
On December 17th, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Benedict Cumberbatch will bless the silver screen in Spiderman: No Way Home. The movie is set about a year after Avengers: Endgame and shortly after Spiderman: Far from Home. Following the public revelation of Spiderman’s identity, Peter Parker goes to Doctor Strange for a favor. He asks Strange to restore his secret identity using his mystic powers. While Doctor Strange is performing the spell, Peter has second thoughts and interrupts Strange. As a result, the magic is faulty and the multiverse breaks. Through the shifting and mixing of reality, previous Spidermen — played by Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield — will appear throughout the movie.
Ms. Marvel
In late 2021, the Marvel series following Kamala Khan will be released on Disney+. Kamala is a Muslim Pakistani-American teenager from New Jersey who has the power to stretch and morph her body in any way imaginable. Before coming into her powers, she was a huge superhero fan and especially of Carol Danvers, hence the pseudonym of Ms. Marvel. The series will follow her relationships and daily trials while she is figuring out who she is. Iman Vellani will reprise the role of Kamala in February 2023 in the second Captain Marvel movie, The Marvels.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Wandavision, and Loki, Doctor Strange’s continued research on the time stone is interrupted by a friend-turned-enemy. This rivalry will cause Strange to unleash evil into the multiverse. Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Doctor Strange alongside co-stars Elizabeth Olsen and Benedict Wong. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be released on May 6th, 2022.
