Homecoming Game 2023: Cary vs Apex Friendship

By: Alex Schweitzer

The Cary Imps are set to host the Apex Friendship Patriots this Friday at 7pm for Cary’s 2023 homecoming football game.

The Imps had a slow start to their season, falling short in their first six games, but they silenced any doubters last Friday with a hard-fought win over Green Hope.

Apex Friendship is coming into this game with a formidable 5-2 record, including an impressive win over Holly Springs a few weeks back.

As always, it’s clear that the Cary High homecoming game will be one to remember.

The Imps are confident heading into the Apex Friendship matchup after last week’s win over Green Hope. Nick Grena, a sophomore who plays as wide receiver, is “looking forward” to the game. When asked what playing in the homecoming game meant to him, he responded, “[It] means a lot to me because all of my family has gone to Cary and participated in football, and it means a lot to keep it going.” Nick scored one touchdown in the win over Green Hope, and he’s optimistic for the future. “I think there are gonna be a lot more wins to come in the future.”

Luke Wolfram, a senior, is another to watch, especially after his performance last week. He scored two touchdowns against Green Hope and made seven tackles on the defensive side. Luke currently leads the team with four total touchdowns and 9.9 tackles per game. Will Vetter, a sophomore, is expected to start at quarterback. He has been a consistent starter at quarterback and has five total touchdown passes this season, including one against Green Hope.

Cary High sports fans are excited and hopeful after last week’s win. Andrew Metters, a junior, and a dedicated Imps fan, was “ecstatic” after the win over Green Hope. “It was the first time I watched the football team win a game.” Andrew is looking forward to the homecoming game, and says “I am hoping that we can pull through.”

Cooper Field is expected to be packed this Friday, as students come to support our team and show off their school spirit. Apex Friendship has a talented team, but the Imps are ready to prove themselves. Regardless of the result of the game, a good time will most certainly be had by all in attendance.

Forks Up, Cary Imps!
