Number 19 on our field, the captain of the varsity soccer team, and one of the hardest workers on the team. These are some traits of Will Kviring, Class of 2025. He is a competitive player, never gives up, and is always giving the team a chance at the sweet feeling of victory. Even by bringing pasta for the team almost every Tuesday after practice, he shows what being captain is all about.

Will Kviring is the leader of this wonderful Imp team. As he put it, “I felt honored that my teammates respected me enough to vote for me as captain, but I also knew it was a big responsibility.” Kviring would go to practice day in and day out, putting all of his energy into practice to improve the team. His leadership helped the team achieve significant improvements and compete against talented teams. Kviring would never leave the field without showing himself that he put everything into the game.

His run to success on the Cary soccer team came his freshman year, when originally he was going to play JV, but before the first game of the season, the varsity coach, Laura Kerrigan, pulled him up to Varsity. He didn’t start the first game but he was able to sum up good minutes, and from then on, the sky was the limit.

He has a fond memory from his freshman year, that team chemistry was made through one simple thing: pasta. The Cary soccer team has a nice tradition of eating pasta every other Tuesday. Will chose to continue the pasta tradition again this year, and it’s been a great success. Leo Nino, a Junior and JV soccer player, says “I thought that the pasta dinners were a fantastic way to get team chemistry together and it was amazing to have food right after practice, so I am very grateful that we had it.“

Will Kviring was a force on the field, so much so that Coach Kerrigan decided to try him up top at striker. He had a short stint of two games where he had the opportunity to start at a position he had never played before. Kviring stated “It was definitely weird for me as I never had played striker before, but I enjoyed the opportunity and I was glad that Coach trusted me to try me out.” Sadly, his stint didn’t turn out successful, but it was definitely a moment to remember.

As Kerrigan described him, “He is someone that looks out for the other players, it is really a defining quality that Will has. Even with the team dinners, he knew that people liked the team dinners and he saw it as a great way to bring the team together.” He shows compassion to his teammates and isn’t hesitant to help out. He works hard for them, he protects them, and he fights for them. Will is the definition of a team player and a great captain.

Cary Soccer is hoping for a good year next year. Will is hoping for a playoff berth, it would be the first playoff berth he would be a part of. But he is also trying to improve his own abilities, even possibly getting nominated for All-Conference. We will find out next year if he is able to achieve all of his goals.

Best of luck, Will!
