Cary High is hosting a Food Drive through the end of November. They ask you to donate non
perishable items that will go to the Food Bank of Central And Northern North Carolina. Some of
the most needed items are canned fruits and vegetables, soups, pasta, and rice. You can turn in
donations to your first period class or you can donate online with the QR code from one of the
flyers in the halls. The class with the highest amount of donations will win a breakfast reward.

The Page spoke to some of the Cary High Student Council members who are on the Food Drive
committee. Senior Gracelyn Gay who has been involved with student council for the past three
years was asked what her role in the food drive was to which she said, “Every year I drive and
pass out bags for the families close to Cary and I helped lead and film the video.”

Next we spoke to senior Maddie Goodman who has been involved with the student council for four years.

When asked the same question she stated, “So me and Colleen Bailey, we are on executive council and each executive council member is in charge of one of our functions … and me and Colleen were in charge of helping with the food drive. So me and Colleen essentially figured out what needed to be done, when it needed to be done, and who needed to do it. So we sat down together and were like ok theses are the things we want to do, we want to have a bulletin board
outside the cafeteria, we want to collect these large grocery store paper bags and pass them out to the local neighborhoods so that they could collect too, we want to get posters around the school to track how many donations each class is getting … So we were able to so far get the bulletin board done in front of the cafeteria and get a video up on the Instagram, professionally made by Colleen, and pass out the bags around the community.”

They were also asked what they recommend students to donate. Gay responded with,
“Donate heavy things like bags of flour or cans of beans.” When we asked Goodman this
question she answered with, “Rice and flour because those weigh the most. The school is competing with other schools in Wake county and the schools that have the most pounds actually wins. It’s not just products amounts even though that’s what we measure for each classroom … any canned good are really good as well, we also are taking some hygiene products like toothpaste and toothbrushes or anything you think anyone in need might need, so we could do baby formula too, or like milk that doesn’t need to be refrigerated. These kinds of things can also
be donated.”

The Page encourages all of our readers to spread the word and donate to the Cary High Food Drive through the rest of November. If you have any questions, ask a member of the Student Council Food Drive committee or any of the Student Council Advisors.
